DRASS was invited by ISMERLO and the Italian Navy to participate in an international technical training event on the topic of Submarine Escape and Rescue.
DRASS Defence System Design Coordinator, Davide D’Alessio, was in attendance at this CRF (Cordinator of Rescue Forces) training course in Taranto.
The course was dedicated to the training of navy officers focused on the SMER (SubMarine Escape and Rescue) scenario on the new generation Submarine Rescue and Intervention System, under development and production for the Italian Navy.
Davide D’Alessio, former Italian Navy Submariner, presented on this topic, and in-depth respecting DRASS rescue systems for the Italian Navy. The course was a response to an important need raised by the Submarine Escape and Rescue Working Group (SMERWG), with the aim of preparing specialists who could be called upon to assist or operate in a submarine rescue operation as Rescue Forces Coordinators. Representatives from ten different nations were in attendance for this specialised training course.
Areas covered included Submarine Escape and Rescue (SMER) related publications, alerting procedures, knowledge of rescue assets, human and psychological factors, scenario training, and website training. Course instructors included international lecturers from ISMERLO and Italian Officers representing subject matter expertise within hyperbaric medicine, submarine rescue, psychology/human factors, logistics, diving, and media handling. Industry experts were also represented.
